In Process Controls
Modern
Molding develops work instructions unique to each product that we manufacture.
These work instructions can be found in our "black books" and they give detailed
instructions on how to cycle the machine, special operations required and how to
package the part. Work packets including work orders, labels, inspection
reports and the black book all tie in through that part's bill of materials.
Each
Black Book has a corresponding "blue book" that is utilized by the quality
inspector on each shift. These blue books contain a Specific Inspection
Procedure (SIP) for the part. The book also contains part histories,
quality notices, weight charts, part print and other details related to the
part. For every lot we produce, inspectors are responsible for verifying
machine cycles, and they conduct start-up, in-process, final and end-of-run
inspections.
Most
of Modern Molding's injection molding machines are capable of recording cycle
parameters so these can be used in subsequent set-ups. This results in
lot-to-lot consistency and eliminates set-up errors that can be caused by a
technician. Consistent cycles will improve quality and result in parts
that are made the same way every time.
